BNSF Railway Co. and the International Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC) have reached an agreement that covers individual paid sick days.
The April 17 announcement is part of larger ongoing discussions about modernizing the work environment, according to a BNSF press release. The Class I now has eight of its 12 labor unions covered by paid sick leave agreements.
Under this latest agreement, the members will receive four additional paid days off to use as sick days. They also can convert up to three personal leave days to sick days each year.
More specific details regarding these new sick days will be provided to affected team members, BNSF officials said.
The company “remains committed” to continuing discussions over the potential addition of paid sick days for those crafts that didn’t already have paid sick days prior to the recent national bargaining round, they said.
