Washington, D.C. —Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) issued the following statement after Representatives Chris Deluzio (D-PA) and Nick LaLota (R-NY) introduced the Railway Safety Act of 2023.
“I applaud Representatives Deluzio and LaLota, who introduced a bipartisan bill today to ensure that communities like East Palestine are not the ones on the hook for the costs of train derailments,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Specifically, the inclusion of minimum train crew requirements will help prevent costly errors while improving safety for our rail workforce. I look forward to working on this proposal and others that will protect neighborhoods, enhance rail safety and hold industry accountable when derailments do occur.”
